เมื่อวันที่ ๑๘ กันยายน ๒๕๕๗ สถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ได้ร่วมกับสถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองปีนัง จังหวัดภูเก็ต และเทศบาลเมืองภูเก็ต จัดกิจกรรมการสัมมนาประวัติศาสตร์ในหัวข้อ "เรื่องเล่าจากภูเก็ต: ความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างภูเก็ตกับปีนัง พระยารัษฎานุประดิษฐ์ฯ และประวัติศาสตร์ร่วมระหว่างไทยกับมาเลเซีย" ที่ห้องประชุมใหญ่ โรงแรมเมโทรโพล จังหวัดภูเก็ต โดยมีนายลิม กวน เอ็ง มุขมนตรีรัฐปีนัง เจ้าหน้าที่หน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผู้แทนภาคเอกชน และบุคคลทั่วไปเข้าร่วมรับฟังการสัมมนากว่า ๓๐๐ คน ภายหลังการกล่าวนำและพิธีเปิดโดยนายไมตรี อินทุสุต ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดภูเก็ต และนายกฤต ไกรจิตติ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ได้มีการบรรยายจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญและบุคคลที่มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับความสัมพันธ์อันยาวนานระหว่างภูเก็ตกับปีนังหลายท่าน อาทิ นางปราณี สกุลพิพัฒนา รองประธานสมาคมเปอรานากันภูเก็ต นางคู ซัลมา ประธานมูลนิธิมรดกปีนัง นายตัน เยียววุย ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านสถาปัตยกรรม และนายอภินันท์ ณ ระนอง ผู้แทนตระกูล ณ ระนอง ซึ่งได้ร่วมให้ความรู้แก่ผู้เข้าร่วมการสัมมนาเกี่ยวกับความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างเมืองคู่มิตรทั้งสองในด้านต่าง ๆ ทั้งในด้านประวัติศาสตร์ กายภาพ และสังคม รวมถึงแนวทางการสานต่อความร่วมมือระหว่างกันในอนาคต

 

On 18 September 2014, the Royal Thai Embassy, together with the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang, Phuket Province and Phuket City Municipality, co-organized a history symposium under the theme "Phuket Story: Phuket-Penang Connection, Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahitsornphakdi and shared history of Thailand-Malaysia relations," at Phuket Metropole Hotel. The symposium, which was attended by over 300 people including H.E. Mr. Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang State, and presided over by both H.E. Mr. Maitri Intusut, Governor of Phuket, and H.E. Mr. Krit Kraichitti, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, featured a number of distinguished speakers from both the Phuket and Penang sides, including Mrs. Pranee Sakulpipatana, Vice President of Thai Peranakan Association, Ms. Khoo Salam, President of the Penang Heritage Trust, Mr. Tan Yeow Wooi, architectural expert, and Mr. Abhinant Na Ranong, a former ambassador who was also a descendant of Khaw Sim Bee Na Ranong, who together provided the participants with greater knowledge and understanding regarding the connection between Phuket and Penang in their history, physicality and societies, as well as future cooperation between the two peoples.
