เมื่อวันที่ 9 พฤษภาคม 2559 นายดำรง ใคร่ครวญ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ได้ให้การต้อนรับ นายกฤษณพงศ์ กีรติกร ประธานกรรมการมูลนิธิรางวัลสมเด็จเจ้าฟ้ามหาจักรี ซึ่งเดินทางเยือนมาเลเซียเพื่อพบหารือกับผู้แทนกระทรวงศึกษาธิการมาเลเซียและครูผู้ได้รับพระราชทานรางวัลเมื่อปี 2558 เกี่ยวกับแนวทางการต่อยอดรางวัลและการพิจารณาเสนอชื่อผู้ที่จะได้รับพระราชทานรางวัลในปี 2560 โดยทั้งสองได้หารือกันเกี่ยวกับจุดเด่นของระบบการศึกษาในโรงเรียนของมาเลเซียและแนวทางการต่อยอดให้รางวัลพระราชทานนี้เกิดคุณประโยชน์สูงสุดต่อระบบการศึกษาไทย

On 9 May 2016, HE Mr Damrong Kraikruan, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, welcomed Dr Krissanapong Kirtikara, Chairman of the Princess Maha Chakri Award Foundation, who visited Malaysia to discuss with representatives of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia regarding the nomination for the Award's second cycle, and with Mr Zainuddin Zakaria, the current Award recipient teacher to follow up on his teaching life as an Award Laureate teacher. On this occasion, the two had an opportunity to exchange views on the strengths of the Malaysian education system and possible cooperation between Thailand and Malaysia as well as other ASEAN countries in education.
