On 8 August 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, together with fellow ambassadors of ASEAN Member States, attended the 58th ASEAN Day Celebration organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at the Cyberjaya Event Hall, Selangor, under the theme “Towards an Inclusive & Sustainable ASEAN Future.” The Opening Ceremony was presided over by Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and attended by Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Johari Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, representatives from 52 foreign diplomatic missions in Malaysia, Malaysian government officials, and students from Malaysian universities, with more than 1,000 participants in total.
In his opening speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia emphasized the significance of ASEAN’s establishment as an organization to foster peace and cooperation. He noted that ASEAN has evolved into a key player on the global stage, and as ASEAN Chair, Malaysia prioritizes building an inclusive and sustainable Southeast Asian region to address shared challenges, including the situation in Myanmar, easing tensions among Member States, and advancing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 for a stronger and more sustainable future for the region.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia commended ASEAN’s unified approach in safeguarding regional peace and stability, as well as ASEAN’s achievements under Malaysia’s Chairmanship, particularly its role in easing tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. He also underscored the importance of addressing the Myanmar issue, promoting sustainable peace, and enhancing regional economic cooperation in trade, investment, energy networks, and connectivity. The Prime Minister further reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to preparing for the successful hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in October 2025.
Following the official proceedings, the Ambassador escorted the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, and their entourage to visit the Thailand booth at the ASEAN cultural and arts exhibition area, which also featured Timor-Leste. The Thailand booth drew significant interest from participants, attracting numerous visitors and photo opportunities throughout the event.
