On 16 June 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of Energy Asia 2025, organised by PETRONAS, whereby Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia delivered a keynote address and Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz, President and Group CEO of PETRONAS, delivered a welcome speech. Also in presence was Mr. Norkun Sitthiphong, Advisor to the Minister of Energy of Thailand, representing Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Thailand.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia emphasized the importance of adopting strategic, realistic, and pragmatic policies to achieve a just and equitable energy transition. In the context of ongoing geopolitical and geoeconomic tensions, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz, President and Group CEO of PETRONAS, outlined three key imperatives to drive the energy transition, including (1) diversifying energy sources with a balanced mix of low-emission and traditional fuels (2) scaling up energy investments (3) fostering greater regional collaboration.
In addition, the Ambassador visited the PTTEP booth at the event’s exhibition, whereby she received a warm welcome by the PTTEP’s executives and team; namely, Mr. Montri Rawanchaikul, CEO; Mr. Titi Thongjen, Acting Executive Vice President, International Production Asset Group; Mr. Padsakorn Suwanruji, Country Manager, PTTEP Malaysia Asset; and, Ms. Kanchanan Panananda, General Manager, Carigali-PTTEPI Operating Company (CPOC).
In 2025, the Energy Asia took place for the second time, under the theme “Delivering Asia’s Energy Transition” during 16 – 18 June 2025 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). The event serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration towards a sustainable energy future for Asia. It also focuses on developing energy infrastructure to support the transition to renewable energy, commercializing low-carbon technologies, and implementing Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technologies.
Thailand’s participation in the event from all sectors underscores the country’s policy to promote energy security in the region. Thailand stands ready to cooperate and collaborate with Malaysia and all potential partners.
