On 12 August 2025, H.E Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to the opening ceremony of the “ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025”, organised by the Ministry of Digital of Malaysia during 12 - 13 August 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur. The event was presided over by YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. The welcoming remarks were delivered by YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital of Malaysia, while Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, gave the Special Address. The Summit was also attended by relevant Ministers from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Lao PDR. The Thai delegation was led by Professor Wisit Wisitsora-at, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, as Thailand’s representative.
During his remarks, the Prime Minister of Malaysia reiterated the country’s strong commitment to becoming a regional leader in the digital and artificial intelligence (AI) sector, and launched the National AI Development Framework under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) (2026 - 2030), with the target of establishing Malaysia as an “AI Nation” by 2030, to create enabling environment for AI transition, such as AI skills development, promoting research and development data center, and supporting the adoption of AI technologies among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to ensure inclusive access for all Malaysians.
On this occasion, the Ambassador welcomed Professor Wisit Wisitsora-at and the Thai delegation, and also engaged with distinguished participants including Raja Dato' Nushirwan Bin Zainal Abidin, Secretary-General of Malaysia’s National Security Council, as well as ambassadors and representatives from other countries.
The ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 was inaugurated and attended by over 5,000 participants, and more than 50 speakers and 150 exhibitors. The opening ceremony was also joined virtually by online participants. The Summit marked the launch of “ILMU”, Malaysia’s first indigenous AI, developed by YTL AI Labs in collaboration with the University of Malaya, under the concept of “100% Made in Malaysia, by Malaysians, for Malaysians”.
