On 5 February 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Forum Ekonomi Malaysia 2026, organised by the Ministry of Economy of Malaysia, in collaboration with Malaysian private sector, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, whereby YAB Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, presided over and delivered a keynote address, and YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir, Minister of Economy of Malaysia, delivered a welcoming address. The Opening Ceremony was well-attended by YAB Datuk Amar Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation of Malaysia; YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak; Cabinet Ministers; senior officials from the public and private sectors of Malaysia, diplomatic corps in Malasia, invited guests and media, with a total of more than 5,000 participants.

 

The Ambassador met with the Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials of Malaysia, and attended the keynote address, whereby the Prime Minister of Malaysia emphasised the importance of the government’s institutional reform, strengthening trust and confidence in the financial sector, suppressing corruption, and promoting education and AI skills development, to ensure that economic growth delivers tangible benefits to the Malaysian people. The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining long-term economic stability and fostering a conducive investment environment.

 

The Forum Ekonomi Malaysia 2026 was held for the second consecutive year under the theme “Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia” to serve as a platform for discussions on economic policy, the exchange of experiences and best practices, and networking among key stakeholders. During the Opening Ceremony, a plenary address on “Humanistic AI for Malaysia” was also delivered by Mr. Tom Gruber, Co-Founder and former Chief Technology Officer of Siri.
