On 24 February 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to attend the Air Asia Berhad Lunar New Year Celebration at the Air Asia Berhad (RedQ) Headquarters in Sepang, Selangor, and warmly received by Tan Sri Dato' Sri Anthony Francis Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer of Capital A Berhad and Founder of Air Asia. The event was also attended by invited guests from diplomatic corps in Malaysia and Malaysian government agencies and private sector, including Tan Sri Nazir Razak, Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Malaysia (ASEAN-BAC Malaysia), and executives of Air Asia.
The Ambassador met with senior executives of Air Asia and congratulated the company on its successful business performance in 2025, particularly its role in promoting intra-ASEAN tourism, with Thailand ranking among the top destination markets. The Ambassador also welcomed the launch of a new direct route between Phuket and Penang, scheduled to operate from March - October 2026, which will help further drive economic activities and enhance tourism connectivity between Thailand and Malaysia.
In February 2026, Air Asia Malaysia operates a total of 322 weekly return flights between Thailand and Malaysia, with 5 destinations in Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and U-Tapao.
