On 23 August 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia was invited to the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd edition of Asia Pacific Tourism & Trade Expo (AITEX 2024), organised by MATA (Malaysian Tourism Agency Association), in collaboration with World Islamic Tourism Council, Global Islamic Tourism Organisation, Travel and Tour World, Batik Air, among others at Sunway Resort Hotel, Selangor. Also in presence were Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Malaysia, relevant agencies as well as the general public and exhibitors from various countries of over 500 participants. The AITEX 2024 will take place during 23-25 August 2024.
 
Thailand’s participation in the AITEX 2024 is represented by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Malaysia Office, whereby Director Mrs. Sirinthara Surakanitaya invited Ms. Aida Oujeh, President of Thai-ASEAN Halal Tourism and Trade Association, to showcase Thai halal tourism products and services at the Amazing Thailand booth. The Amazing Thailand booth was honoured to receive a visit by Dato’ Jeffri Sulaiman, Organising Chairman of AITEX 2024, Dato’ Dr. Mohd Khalid Harun, President of MATA and Chairman of AITEX 2024 and Tuan Haji Mohd Yahya bin Haji Mohd Sahri, Political Secretary to Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia as well as other foreign and Malaysian visitors and media. Thailand’s promotion of halal tourism in southern Thailand provinces bordered with Malaysia is among the most popular destinations. The Amazing Thailand booth also helps raise awareness of Thailand’s promotion of sustainable and activity-based tourism as well as the not to be missed festivals in other provinces in the country.
 
The AITEX 2024 is organised with the objective to inform the participants from the public and private sectors of development and latest trends in halal tourism, which prioritises responsible and sustainable tourism with the use of technology and innovation as its promotional tool. The event creates understanding, networking opportunities and connection of Islamic culture and bonds among tourism industry players from the participating countries. In addition, on 26 August 2024, the World Islamic Tourism and Trade Awards (WITA 2024) will also be presented to individuals and agencies with excellence in halal tourism.
