On 3 September 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to the Opening Ceremony of the 19th Asia Media Summit (AMS) under the theme “Media: The New Odyssey” at Omnia Auditorium, Brickfield Asia College (BAC), Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The event was organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications of Malaysia and Institut Penyiaran dan Penerangan Tun Abdul Razak (IPPTAR). The Summit was officiated by YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications of Malaysia, with special remarks by H.E. Mr. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information of Cambodia, and Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Undersecretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP). Over 400 participants from 40 countries attended the event, including from Thailand, whereby Mrs. Sudruethai Lertkasem, Director-General of Thailand’s Public Relations Department, was the head of delegation and Chair of AIBD Executive Board (EXBO).
The Deputy Minister underlined the importance of media adaptation to address challenges posed by today’s technological and digital disruptions, particularly the Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as highlighting Malaysian Government’s policies and actions, and the role of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in tackling challenges related to digital technology, online activities, and disinformation, etc.
On this occasion, the Ambassador also welcomed the Director-General and the Thai delegation who attended the AIBD EXBO on 1 September 2024 and the 19th AMS during 2 – 5 September 2024, while expressing congratulations on Thailand’s role as the Chair of EXBO and the host of the upcoming General Conference and EXBO scheduled for mid-2025.
