On 17 March 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, along with Captain Jirapong Apichatwong (RTN.), Naval Attaché, met with third-year merchant marine students and students participating in the maritime personnel development project (1st voyage). Mr. Witchaya Rattanasukjit, Captain of T.S. (Training Ship) Sakhon Wisai from the Merchant Marine Training Center of the Marine Department, and instructors and staff, totaling 20 persons from the 205 participants in this project, paid a courtesy call to the Ambassador at the Royal Thai Embassy during their port call at Port Klang for sea training between 14 - 17 March 2025.
On this occasion, the Ambassador provided information on the potential of Port Klang, in the State of Selangor, which ranked the 10th busiest port in the world for cargo handling in 2024 and is currently undergoing an expansion project for container terminals to increase cargo handling capacity, aligning with the Malaysian government’s economic development goals. Meanwhile, marine connectivity and logistics links with Malaysia continue to benefit Thailand.
The Ambassador and Embassy’s officials also exchanged views and experiences with the merchant marine students on various issues, such as the benefits of maritime shipping, utilization of technology in maritime navigation, and their future career paths, while wishing them success in their training objectives.
