On 20 August 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, received courtesy call from DCP Zulia binti Khamis @ Ahmad Kamil, Director of the International Affairs and Prisoner Transfer Division, Malaysian Prison Department, along with her delegation comprising ASP Rosita binti Johar and Sergeant Shartini Bujal, at the Royal Thai Embassy. The courtesy call served as a platform to exchange views and discuss cooperation on prison-related matters concerning Thai inmates in Malaysia. The meeting was joined by officials from the Embassy, namely Mr. Adittha Buakhamsi, Minister Counsellor, Mr. Azman Taepoh, Counsellor (Consular Affairs), and Ms. Pinyada Reiniger, Counsellor (Legal Affairs). The discussions covered key issues including the welfare of Thai inmates in Malaysia, facilitation of prison visits, repatriation of prisoners, as well as updates on the ongoing negotiations of the Treaty between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of Malaysia on the International Transfer of Sentenced Persons. The treaty is anticipated to play a vital role in supporting the rehabilitation and sustainable reintegration of prisoners, as a vulnerable group, into society.

On this occasion, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to work closely with the Malaysian Prison Department and sought its continued support in ensuring the well-being of Thai inmates. Both sides also explored potential future cooperation to translate shared commitments into concrete outcomes.
