On 23 October 2024, H.E. Lada Phumas, Ambassador, received H.E. Mrs. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Culture, and delegation, on the occasion of Minister Sudawan’s visit to Malaysia to attend the 11th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (11th AMCA) and Related Meetings, during 23 – 25 October 2024 in Melaka, Malaysia.
The Ambassador cordially exchanged information on the Royal Thai Embassy’s initiative to co-host Kebaya promotion activity with the Embassies of ASEAN member states in Malaysia, as the traditional attire has been jointly nominated by Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand for UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Listing. The Ambassador also expressed readiness to support the missions of the Ministry of Culture, especially in enhancing bilateral cooperation as discussed in the 15th Thailand – Malaysia Joint Commission meeting in August 2024, in Kuala Lumpur.
On 24 October 2024, the Minister of Culture and the Ambassador were invited to ASEAN Festival of Arts in Melaka, whereby YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and YAB Datuk Seri Utama Haji Ab Rauf Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka were Malaysia’s high-level representatives. The Festival featured ASEAN cultural performances, including “Kinari” presented by the Office of the Performing Arts, Fine Arts Department, which received much attention from over 700 delegates of from ASEAN member states and dialogue partners (China, Japan and Republic of Korea)
As part of Visit Melaka Year 2024, Malaysia aims to promote Malacca, a World Heritage Site, as a key historical and cultural tourism destination for local and international tourists.
