On 23 - 25 March 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, welcomed Mr. Chai Wacharonke, Thai Trade Representative (TTR), and the Thai delegation, on their visit to Malaysia to discuss with high-level officials from the Malaysian government and private sector on Thailand - Malaysia cooperation in the fields of livestock and agricultural products, as well as the halal industry.
On 24 March 2025, the Ambassador and TTR Chai met with YB Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, at Wisma Tani, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia in Putrajaya, whereby Dr. Sopat Chavalkul, Deputy Director of Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development; Mr. Worawan Wanwil, Minister-Counsellor (Commercial); and Ms. Puncharat Muansoy, Minister-Counsellor (Agriculture), were in attendance. Both sides expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the agricultural and livestock sectors, which will contribute to achieving Thailand - Malaysia bilateral trade target of USD 30 billion by 2027.
The Thai side emphasised increasing trade in live cattle, initiating the export of processed beef, and promoting the export of quality breeding cattle to Malaysia, while highlighting the biosecurity standards of Thailand’s pig farming industry and its readiness to export pork to Malaysia. In addition, both sides also agreed to jointly develop the halal industry, especially along the southern border provinces of Thailand and northern region of Malaysia.
On this occasion, the Ambassador sought continued support of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia in facilitating the operations of Thai businesses in Malaysia, especially those in agricultural and food industries which play a significant role in ensuring Malaysia's food security.
