On 5 September 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, led the Malaysian parliamentary delegation on a study visit to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province to explore the local Muslim communities.

The delegation visited Islamsriayutthaya Foundation School, located in the Muslim community of Khlong Takian Subdistrict, where they attended a panel discussion titled “Bridging Histories: Muslim Communities in Ayutthaya.” Key panelists included Prof. Dr. Jaran Maluleem, Vice President for International Affairs of Krirk University, Dr. Bandit Aroman, Head of the Political Science Program, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Krirk University, and Mr. Faisol Boonrod, Director of Islamsriayutthaya Foundation School. The session highlighted the history and development of the school, as well as the broader history of Muslim communities in Thailand, particularly in Ayutthaya, and their connection to the historical development of Thailand–Malaysia relations. This session provided valuable insights into Thailand’s multicultural society.

The delegation also visited two historic mosques in the Khlong Takian community, both dating back to the Ayutthaya period — Kudi Chofa Mosque and Takia Yokin Mosque — where they were warmly welcomed by Imam Hasan Hanafi, Imam Musa Tanithep, and local community members. In addition, the delegation observed and participated in a demonstration of making “Roti Sai Mai,” or Thai Cotton Candy Crepe, a signature dessert of Ayutthaya, presented by Mr. Salem Saeng-arun, the pioneer of the production in the area. The activity reflected the community’s diverse cultural identity and local creativity, which contribute to value creation and the promotion of community-based economy.
