On 15 August 2025, following the opening ceremony of the Thailand–Malaysia Strategic Dialogue, a video presentation titled “Past to Present, Side by Side: Thailand and Malaysia’s Evolving Strategic Bond” was screened. The video highlighted bilateral ties before 1957, the year diplomatic relations were established, and their continued development through robust bilateral mechanisms, which underscored how cooperation has grown to the strategic level, marked by high-level engagements, the signing of key agreements beneficial to both nations and peoples, as well as joint efforts within ASEAN. The upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027 will serve as an important milestone in shaping a shared vision for a secure, prosperous, and sustainable future.
The Dialogue comprised two panel sessions. Panel Session 1: “Reflections on the Evolution of Thailand–Malaysia Relations”, moderated by Mr. Kavi Chongkittavorn, Senior Journalist on regional issues, featured H.E. Damrong Kraikruan, former Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia; H.E. Datuk Jojie Samuel, former Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand and ASEAN Affairs Adviser, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia; and Associate Professor Dr. Chaiwat Meesantan, Director of the Institute of East Asian Studies, Thammasat University.
Panel Session 2: “Advancing Thailand–Malaysia Cooperation in a Volatile Region”, moderated by Mr. Thomas Daniel, Director of ISIS Malaysia, included Dr. Pongphisoot Busbarat, Director of the ISIS Thailand, Mr. Bunn Sri na Nagara, Head of the Renaissance Strategic Research Institute Malaysia, and Ms. Arividya Arimuthu, Senior Fellow, ISIS Malaysia.
The Dialogue concluded with concrete achievements, fostering extensive exchanges of views on strategic issues of importance to both bilateral and regional relations. The participation of prominent Malaysian figures reflected the Dialogue’s role as a vital platform for knowledge sharing and policy discussion on Thailand–Malaysia relations in the broader international context. On this occasion, ISIS Malaysia broadcast selected segments of the Dialogue, while H.E. the Ambassador also gave interviews to Malaysian media.
