เมื่อวันที่ 7 มกราคม 2559 นายดำรง ใคร่ครวญ เอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ ได้เดินทางไปเยี่ยมชมนิคมอุตสาหกรรมยางพาราที่ ต. ฉลุง อ. หาดใหญ่ จ. สงขลา ใกล้ชายแดนไทย-มาเลเซียและเขตเศรษฐกิจพิเศษสงขลา เป็นนิคมอุตสาหกรรมที่จัดสรรไว้สำหรับผู้ที่ต้องการประกอบธุรกิจแปรรูปยางพาราในลักษณะกลางน้ำและปลายน้ำโดยให้สิทธิพิเศษและนักลงทุนหลายรายการ ในโอกาสนี้ เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้หารือและสอบถามข้อมูลจากผู้อำนวยการนิคมอุตสาหกรรมฯ โดยหวังที่จะนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ในการเชิญชวนนักธุรกิจจากมาเลเซียมาลงทุนในอุตสาหกรรมแปรรูปยางพาราเพื่อเพิ่มอุปสงค์และมูลค่าให้แก่ยางพาราไทย
On 7 January 2016, H.E. Mr. Damrong Kraikruan, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, visited Songkhla Rubber City, near Hat Yai, to collect information regarding the attractions and incentives for investors with a view to wooing Malaysian businesses to invest in the estate. The Rubber City covers 125 hectares of flood-free land in Chalung Sub-District, situating only around 80 km from the Malaysian border and near the Hat Yai International Airport. Foreign Investors will be allowed to own land in the estate and enjoy many other privileges, including a tax holiday, providing the businesses they run are in the midstream or downstream rubber industry.
