ตุน ดร. มหาธีร์ บิน โมฮัมหมัด นายกรัฐมนตรีมาเลเซีย พร้อมด้วย ตุน ดร. ซีตี ฮัสมะฮ์  บินตี โมฮัมหมัด อาลี ภริยา จะเดินทางเยือนไทยอย่างเป็นทางการในฐานะแขกของรัฐบาลไทย ระหว่างวันที่ ๒๔ - ๒๕ ตุลาคม ๒๕๖๑ โดยมีกำหนดหารือข้อราชการกับนายกรัฐมนตรีและเข้าร่วมงานเลี้ยงอาหารค่ำ ที่ทำเนียบรัฐบาลในวันที่ ๒๔ ตุลาคม ๒๕๖๑ หลังจากนั้น จะเข้าเยี่ยมคารวะพลเอก เปรม ติณสูลานนท์ ประธานองคมนตรีและรัฐบุรุษ และกล่าวปาฐกถาพิเศษในหัวข้อ “Malaysia-Thailand Bilateral Relations in the Context of ASEAN” ณ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในวันที่ ๒๕ ตุลาคม ๒๕๖๑

การเยือนไทยอย่างเป็นทางการของนายกรัฐมนตรีมาเลเซียและภริยาในฐานะแขกของ รัฐบาลไทยครั้งนี้จะเป็นการเยือนไทยครั้งแรก นับตั้งแต่ตุน ดร. มหาธีร์ บิน โมฮัมหมัด เข้ารับตำแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรีมาเลเซียเป็นสมัยที่ ๒ เมื่อวันที่ ๑๐ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๖๑ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อแนะนำตัวตามธรรมเนียมปฏิบัติของผู้นำประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียน และหารือแนวทางการขับเคลื่อนความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างไทยกับมาเลเซียให้มีความก้าวหน้า โดยเฉพาะความร่วมมือด้านความมั่นคง ความเป็นหุ้นส่วนเศรษฐกิจ การส่งเสริมความเชื่อมโยงตามแนวชายแดน ตลอดจนความร่วมมือระหว่างกันในกรอบอาเซียน และกรอบพหุภาคีอื่น ๆ
 

 His Excellency Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and his spouse, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah binti Mohamad Ali, will pay an official visit to Thailand as Guests of the Royal Thai Government on 24-25 October 2018. The Prime Minister of Malaysia will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Thailand at Government House on 24 October 2018, followed by dinner hosted in their honour by the Prime Minister. He is also scheduled to have a courtesy call on His Excellency General Prem Tinsulanonda, President of the Privy Council and Statesman, and give a special lecture on “Malaysia-Thailand Bilateral Relations in the Context of ASEAN at Chulalongkorn University" on 25 October 2018.

This visit by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and his spouse is the first official visit to Thailand since his assumption of office of the premiership for the second time on 10 May 2018. Set as an introductory visit in line with ASEAN tradition, the two sides will take the opportunity to discuss the way forward in their efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the realms of security, economic partnership, connectivity along the border areas, and cooperation within ASEAN and other multilateral frameworks.
