On 10 August 2026, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, together with fellow ambassadors of ASEAN Member States, attended the 59th ASEAN Day Celebration organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at the Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Putrajaya, under the theme “59 Years of Navigating Together.” The event was presided over by Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, with presence of Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, Dato Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Tan Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, Secretary-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. Ambassadors and representatives of foreign embassies in Malaysia, representatives of Malaysian government agencies and international organisations, as well as members of the media, also attended the event, totaling 300 participants.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia underscored the importance of maintaining ASEAN centrality and unity amid a volatile global situation, in order for ASEAN to continue playing an important role in promoting dialogue and diplomacy. He also supported strengthening relations with a diverse range of external partners on the basis of equality and ASEAN’s interests. In addition, he stressed the need for ASEAN to keep pace with the changing global landscape by accelerating the digital economy, modernising trade agreements with key partners, and placing importance on sustainable development, including the transition towards green energy and the strengthening of long-term energy security.

On this occasion, the Ambassador, together with Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States to Malaysia, joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia in the Cake-Cutting Ceremony in commemoration of the 59th Anniversary of ASEAN. The Ambassador congratulated the Ministry on the celebration and expressed readiness to work constructively with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia to promote the shared interests of both countries and the ASEAN region.
