On 20 April 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to attend the “Majlis Tautan Muhibah Kumpulan MBI Selangor”, hosted by the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporation (MBI) at Setia City Convention Centre, whereby Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Amirudin Bin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor, presided over the event, along with members of the Selangor State Executive Council (EXCO); YBhg. Dato’ Ts. Saipolyazan M Yusop, MBI Chief Executive Officer; executives from MBI subsidiaries; members of the diplomatic corps in Malaysia; representatives from the public and private sectors, invited guests and the Malaysian media, with a total attendance of over 1,000 participants.
The Ambassador met with the Menteri Besar, members of the State EXCO, and senior executives of MBI, extending congratulations on the group’s achievements and the strong economic potential of Selangor, while underscoring the significance role played by Thai private sector and investors in contributing to Selangor’s economic growth, employment and food security. On this occasion, the Ambassador further reaffirmed the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur’s readiness to work closely with the Selangor State Government and sought continued support in facilitating and safeguarding the interests of Thai businesses, investors and students in the state.
Selangor remains one of the leading destinations for Thai investment in Malaysia, encompassing sectors such as agriculture, livestock, food, services, retail, logistics and industrial goods. The state is also home to the largest number of Thai students in Malaysia, numbering over 200, including those enrolled at the
Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), in institution under the purview of MBI.
