On 8 June 2023, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas was invited by Major General Datuk Mohammad Nizam, Commander of the National Resilience College (NRC), Putrajaya to give an executive talk on Thailand – Malaysia Bilateral Relations: Opportunities and Challenges. The NRC, under the National Centre of Defence Studies, was established in 2019 to offer continuity of defence studies at grand strategic level. The 30 course participants comprised of colonel, brigadier general and major general ranks from Malaysia, Brunei, and Egypt. Her Excellency touched upon a wide-ranging topics on Thailand – Malaysia’s bilateral relations, including our shared history, the exchanges of visits at various levels, especially, Malaysia PM’s official visit to Thailand in February 2023 and its follow-up, Thailand-Malaysia’s roles in the regional and international affairs, promoting of ASEAN Centrality in the context of new challenges, as well as prospects and challenges in bilateral relations. The insightful briefing generated a lively interaction between the Ambassador and the participants, thus creating positive sentiments, and paving ways for more engagements with Thailand in the future.
On this occasion, Her Excellency, together with military attaché (army, navy and air) and police minister-counsellor, were warmly welcomed by NRC commanders. Both sides discussed prospects of defense and security cooperation whereby the Malaysian side will lead a delegation to visit the National Defense College of Thailand this year.
