On 27 September 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia was invited to attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Westports 2 terminal expansion in Port Klang, Selangor, which was presided over by Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. Also in presence were YB Tuan Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, Malaysia, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Haji Amirudin bin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor and the Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd Management, operator of the Westports at container terminal 9.

The Wesports 2 terminal expansion, which involves the construction of container terminals 10-17, aims to increase the Westports’ container handling capacity from 14 TEUs to 28 TEUs yearly, in response to the market demands and growing global trade. The expansion prioritises sustainable practices and will also adopt automation technologies. The container terminal 10 is expected to start its operations by 2028.
