On 8-9 September 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, accompanied by Mr. Raschada Jiwalai, Thai Consul General in Penang and officials from the Embassy and the Consulate General of Thailand in Penang, took a visit to explore the key transport and logistics infrastructure across Thailand-Malaysia rail and land border in Perlis, including the Padang Besar Container Terminal (PBCT) and the construction site of the Perlis Inland Port (PIP) located in the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) as part of the NCER (Northern Corridor Economic Region) of Malaysia. They received a warm welcome and insightful briefing from the Multimodal Freight Sdn Bhd (MMF), a wholly owned subsidiary of KTMB, and Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd as well as Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA).

The Ambassador and the delegation exchanged views and discussed new potential areas of trade and investment cooperation between the Thai-Malaysian public and private sectors, especially in the transport and logistics sector. Both sides appreciated the good cooperation and agreed to continue working closely to ensure smooth transportation of goods and cargo terminal operation at the border, especially during the transition period to relocate the cargo terminal from the PBCT to the PIP once its phase I construction is completed by Quarter 2 of 2025.
