On 19 February 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, received Vice Admiral Nares Wongtrakul, Commander of the 2nd Naval Area and the Royal Thai Navy delegation, on the occasion of Vice Admiral Nares’s visit to Malaysia during 19 - 22 February 2025 to co-chair the 82nd Malaysia - Thailand Combined Marine Working Group (CMWG) meeting in Penang, with Royal Malaysian Navy’s Naval Area 1 Western Commander.

 

Ambassador Lada reiterated the importance of security cooperation framework as an essential mechanism to take forward Thailand - Malaysia relations, including through the meeting of the CMWG under the Regional Border Committee (RBC). As one of the annual events, CMWG has helped foster good understanding and networks among related agencies and personnels of Thailand and Malaysia.

 

Both sides also exchanged views and information on the development of Thailand - Malaysia bilateral relations and border security cooperation, as well as recent developments in Malaysia’s border management. The Royal Thai Embassy stands ready to support various missions of the Royal Thai Navy, while also expressing appreciation for the Office of the Military Attachés’ continued close cooperation.
