On 11 July 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailan to Malaysia, welcomed Dr. Chana Poomee, Chairman of Thailand Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), and the TCMA Delegation at the Embassy. The TCMA Delegation was in Malaysia to attend the 70th Asian Cement Producers Amity Club (ACPAC) Workshop, organised by Cement and Concrete Association of Malaysia (C&CA) during 11-12 July 2024 in Melaka.
Ambassador Lada exchanged information on Malaysia’s energy transition policies and initiatives, particularly those related to decarbonisation and clean energy industries, in which the Malaysian Government continues to attach great importance to, in support of the NET Zero target by 2050. She also discussed the challenges faced by Malaysia in the transition to low carbon society, Thai businesses in the cement industry in Malaysia, market opportunity for construction materials in Malaysia as well as its challenges.
TCMA Chairman Dr. Chana informed the Ambassador of the purpose of the TCMA Delegation’s visit to Malaysia, in which they would meet with the concerned cement manufacturers associations, and that the TCMA recently hosted the ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM) 44th Council Meeting in Thailand during 23-25 November 2023, themed “ASEAN Cement Collaboration Towards Decarbonization”. Thailand’s NDP (Nationally Determined Contributions) Roadmap towards the GHG emissions reduction was supported by members of the cement manufacturers associations, demonstrating Thailand’s commitment to decarbanisation efforts of the cement industry in ASEAN, which would help to attract investments in the smart and sustainable industries in the region and globally.
