On 28 May 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to preside over the opening ceremony of the inaugural Thailand - Malaysia Business Matching Forum on Energy, jointly organised by the Ministry of Energy of Thailand and the ETE : Energy Technology for Environment Research Center of Chiang Mai University at the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur. The Ambassador was warmly welcomed by Ms. Krittiya Petsee, Director of International Affairs Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Thailand; Assoc. Prof. Wongkot Wongsapai, Head of the Centre; and Mr. Gogielan Nantha Kumar, Deputy Director of Green Technology Division, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA); along with 50 representatives from leading Thai and Malaysian energy companies and organisations.

In her opening remarks, the Ambassador underscored the importance of Thailand - Malaysia energy cooperation amid evolving global energy challenges, while noting that longstanding successes, including the Malaysia - Thailand Joint Development Area (MTJDA) and the ASEAN Power Grid Initiative, have laid a strong foundation for expanding collaboration in energy transition, clean energy development and sustainable growth. The Ambassador also highlighted Thailand’s capabilities in renewable energy and energy innovation, as well as Malaysia’s vision under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) 2030, which present significant opportunities for both countries to deepen cooperation in investment, technology transfer, and the joint development of clean energy projects.

On the same occasion, the Ambassador encouraged the private sector of both countries to forge long-term partnerships and make full use of the Forum as a platform to exchange ideas, explore new business opportunities, and strengthen regional energy connectivity, particularly through the success of the Lao PDR–Thailand–Malaysia–Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP).

The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reaffirmed its readiness to support economic and investment cooperation between Thailand and Malaysia, with a view to generating tangible outcomes that contribute to a sustainable energy future and shared prosperity for both countries and the ASEAN community.
