Ambassador Welcomed the Prime Minister of Thailand on the Official Visit to Malaysia during 9 - 10 July 2026 (1)

On 9 July 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, along with the Defence and Army Attaché; Naval Attaché; Air Attaché; and Minister Counsellor (Police Liaison) of the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, as representatives of the Team Thailand in Malaysia, welcomed His Excellency Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Thailand; Mrs. Thananon Charnvirakul, Spouse of the Prime Minister; and the Thai delegation upon their arrival at the Bunga Raya Complex (BRC), Kuala Lumpur International Airport, on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s Official Visit to Malaysia during 9 - 10 July 2026. On this occasion, The Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah binti Dr. Wan Ismail, Spouse of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, personally welcomed the Prime Minister and his delegation at the BRC.
The Ambassador took part in the important programmes of the Official Visit on 9 July 2026, namely the Official Welcoming Ceremony at the BRC, the Delegation Meeting attended by the Deputy Prime Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, and senior officials of both Thailand and Malaysia at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, as well as the Official Luncheon in honour of the Prime Minister hosted by the Prime Minister of Malaysia at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence (Seri Perdana Complex), Putrajaya.
The Official Visit concluded with a great success, whereby the two Prime Ministers held comprehensive discussions and reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation across all dimensions. Priority areas included: (1) strengthening economic cooperation in trade, investment, the halal industry, tourism, and the digital economy, with the shared goal of achieving bilateral trade valued at USD 30 billion by 2027; (2) enhancing agricultural cooperation, during which both Prime Ministers witnessed the exchange of the Thailand – Malaysia Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation, covering academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, agricultural technology and innovation, and food security; (3) promoting cross-border transport and infrastructure connectivity to facilitate the movement of people and goods, enhance the competitiveness of businesses, and improve the well-being of the peoples of both countries, during which the two Prime Ministers jointly officiated the opening of the new Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Sadao Checkpoint - the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Bukit Kayu Hitam Checkpoint Road Alignment on 10 July 2026; and (4) advancing cooperation in addressing issues relating to Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces with a view to fostering lasting peace, security, and improved quality of life for the people in the area, among others. These outcomes underscore the shared determination of both countries to further strengthen their partnership towards the 70th anniversary of strong, resilient and sustainable Thailand - Malaysia diplomatic relations in 2027.
In the evening of the same day, the Ambassador hosted a dinner in honour of the Prime Minister and the Thai delegation such as Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport; Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance; Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Lieutenant General Adul Boonthumjaroen, Minister of Defence; Mr. Surasak Phancharoenworakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports; Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives; Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour; Mr. Jeseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, and Mr. Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, Advisor to the Prime Minister; among others. Officials of Team Thailand in Kuala Lumpur also attended the dinner in a warm and cordial atmosphere, which provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination and foster closer collaboration among Thai agencies.
In the morning of 10 July 2026, the Ambassador, together with representatives of Team Thailand in Malaysia and senior Malaysian officials, bid farewell to the Prime Minister and the Thai delegation at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The Ambassador subsequently accompanied the Prime Minister to Sadao District, Songkhla Province, to attend the opening ceremony of the new Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Sadao Checkpoint - the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Bukit Kayu Hitam Checkpoint Road Alignment.
