In the evening of 5 December 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur hosted a Reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, and Thailand’s Father’s Day 2025 at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, whereby Her Excellency Miss Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, presided over the Reception with the presence of YB Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, as the Guest of Honour representing the Government of Malaysia.
The Reception was well-attended by Y.A.M. Tunku Dato’ Seri Utama Naquiyuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja'afar, son of the 10th King of Malaysia; Y.A.M. Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, son of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan; Dato’ Ahmad Rozian bin Abd. Ghani, Deputy Secretary-General (Bilateral) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia; Mr. Mohd Yani bin Daud, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy) of the Ministry of Defence of Malaysia; Ambassador Ikram bin Mohd Ibrahim, Chief of Protocol of Malaysia; Datuk Seri Ayob Khan bin Mydin Pitchay, Deputy Inspector-General of Police of Malaysia; Dato’ Sri Mustapa bin Mohamed, former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economic) of Malaysia; Datuk Wira Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC); Datuk Jojie Samuel M C Samuel, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and former Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand; members of the diplomatic corps, Malaysian governmental and private sectors, academia, media, as well as Friends of Thailand - over 600 distinguished guests in total.
The Ambassador paid homage before the royal portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, opened the flower cone and paid homage before the royal portrait of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia then offered a congratulatory message to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and led a toast in His Majesty’s honour before the Royal Anthem of Thailand was played. The Ambassador then extended a congratulatory message to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, led the toast in His Majesty’s honour and presided over the playing of the Malaysian National Anthem.
On this occasion, the Ambassador invited all distinguished guests to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, before delivering remarks honouring the profound contribution of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, whose lifelong devotion advanced Thailand’s sustainable development and earned global recognition. The Ambassador also paid tribute to the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, highlighting Her Majesty’s State Visit to the then Federation of Malaya in 1962, the revitalisation of Khon or Thai Masked Dance Drama, which led to its inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (ICH) in 2018, as well as the elevation of Chud Thai or Thai National Dress onto the international stage, whereby the Ambassador encouraged the guests to support Thailand’s nomination of “Chud Thai : The Knowledge, Craftsmanship and Practices of the Thai National Costume” for UNESCO’s ICH in 2026.
The Ambassador also highlighted the 68th anniversary of Thailand - Malaysia diplomatic relations in 2025, noting that during the two years and eight months of her ambassadorship, Thailand and Malaysia have achieved the most dynamic period of high-level visits and engagements. The Ambassador reaffirmed Thailand’s position as a “key strategic player for advancing peace, prosperity and development” while extending her congratulations on Malaysia’s successful ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. On the same occasion, the Ambassador further invited the United Nations Member States to participate in the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams (IGPOS), which Thailand will co-host with the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) during 17 - 18 December 2025 in Bangkok. In concluding her remarks, the Ambassador invited guests to experience the authentic and distinctive essence of Thai cuisine, served by Thai SELECT restaurants in Malaysia.
