On 10 April 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, presided over the Official Launch of the Malaysia’s Premier Songkran Festival 2026, jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, EQ Solutions Sdn. Bhd., and 1 Utama Shopping Centre, during 9 - 19 April 2026 at Forecourt, 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara, Selangor.
Following the Official Launch, Ambassador Lada led YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital of Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Damansara, together with members of the diplomatic corps, invited guests and participants, in a series of traditional Thai cultural activities, including the Rod Nam Dam Hua (water-pouring ceremony to honour elders), Ram Wong Rearng Songkran (Thai Songkran Dance), Ram Wong Klong Yao (Long Drum Dance) performed by Persatuan Siam Kelantan Kuala Lumpur (PESILA), Len Nam (water-splashing festivity), contemporary Thai cultural performances, and wearing Thai traditional costumes, coinciding with Thailand’s submission of “Chud Thai: The Knowledge, Craftsmanship, and Practices of the Thai National Costume” for inscription on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2026.
On this occasion, the Royal Thai Embassy also brought in a statue of “Phra Phuttha Sirindhorn Theparat Mongkhol Phuwadol Santi” for the Song Nam Phra (ceremonial water-pouring ritual). The Festival was successfully organised in a beautiful and lively manner, delivering both joy and meaningful cultural experiences. Participants expressed their admiration for the strength and unity of the Thai community in Malaysia, while praising the vibrant and globally recognised “Thai identity.” The Malaysian media also showed great interest by providing extensive coverage of the Festival’s Opening Ceremony across various platforms.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur cordially invites all those interested to take part in the Songkran celebrations and visit the booths featuring Thai food and products at the Festival, held from 9 – 19 April 2026 (Midday to Midnight) at Forecourt, 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara, Selangor. This marks the second consecutive year of the Embassy’s co-organisation of the Festival, reflecting the growing popularity of Thai culture within Malaysia’s multicultural society. In 2025, the Festival attracted approximately 100,000 visitors.
