On 19 January 2026, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia joined foreign ambassadors to Malaysia in the opening ceremony of the Fifth Session of the Fifteenth Parliament of Malaysia at the Parliament of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, whereby The Honourable Prime Minister, His Excellency the President of the Dewan Negara, His Excellency the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and the members of the Cabinet and the Parliament, as well as relevant delegation participated in unison.
 
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, delivered the Royal Address, commending Malaysia for its successful ASEAN Chair in 2025 and record of an economic growth of 4.7%, with unemployment and inflation rates remaining low and hardcore poverty standing at 0.09%. 2026 marks the beginning of the 13th Malaysia Plan, wishing for the 13 MP to highlight more on education, housing, health and public transportation. HM also put high alert on anti-corruption & governance, institutional & legislative reforms, national Identity, unity & solidarity within the nation. HM reminded all members to execute their duties with full trustworthiness, wisdom and responsibility.
 
The new session of the Parliament was opened on 19 January and will sit for 20 days. The sitting will continue with ministers’ question time on 4-10 February, followed by the tabling of bills and others from 11 February to 3 March 2026.
