Purpose of Visit: To stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 10 years without the intention of working.
Holders of this type of visa are allowed to stay in Thailand for 5 years each time (a total of 10 years). *Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.*

Qualifications to apply:

  • Applicant must be 50 years and over (on the day of applying).
  • Applicants must be nationals and passport holders of eligible countries, namely; Japan, Australia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States
  • Each applicant, including spouse and children, must have their own Health Insurance Certificate to present during the visa application process.
  • Health insurance policy must have coverage of not less than 400,000 Thai Baht per policy year for Inpatients, and not less than 40,000 Thai Baht per policy year for outpatients.
  • Each applicant, including spouse and children, must ensure that he/she has always held the Thai health insurance policy throughout the granted period of a long-stay visa. Failure to meet this requirement will be considered disqualified to the standard requirements under the announcement by the Department of Consular Affairs, and the granted visa will be withdrawn.
  • All applicants must contact authorized insurance companies directly to apply for Thai health insurance policy. Any inquiries on completing Insurance application can be addressed at each insurance company.

Required documents:

  1. The original passport (must be valid within 6 months from the travel date).

  2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months.

  3. A completed visa application form (download here)

  4. A copy of the passport Biodata page.

  5. Medical certificates showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No.14 (B.E. 2535) certificate shall be valid for not more than three months. All applicants are required to use our form only (Download) and signed by the medical provider with the hospital or medical stamp.

  6. Certified criminal record in the applicant’s country of origin or current country of residence issued by the competent authority within the last 3 months.

  7. Evidence of adequate finance:
    O-X visa: A copy of a bank statement from Thailand financial institutes and a letter of guarantee from the bank with bank’s contact information showing a deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 3 million Baht. (Please note that such a minimum amount must be maintained at least 1 year after receiving the visa) or A copy of bank statement (from financial institutes located in Thailand only) and a letter of guarantee from the bank with bank’s contact information showing a deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 1.8 million Baht and proof of annual incomes of not less than 1.2 million Baht. Once the applicants enter Thailand, they must have accumulated money deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand not less than 3 million Baht within 1 year.

  8. Additional health insurance:
    - Effective from 31 October 2019, the applicant must be medically insured for the entire period of stay in Thailand with the following coverage:
    – Health Insurance issued by a insurer in Thailand with outpatient benefit of no less than 40,000 THB and inpatient benefit of no less than 400,000 THB.

  9. The applicants must submit the following:
    - Health insurance policy document issued by a Thai insurance company only, stating that the applicant is medically insured for the period and with coverage as mentioned above:
    The applicant must submit the insurance policy document or, if available, the original insurance policy document. A list of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found here: http://longstay.tgia.org (**Per the regulation for an O-X visa, the applicant must have a Thai Insurance Company in order to obtain this visa, the Insurance coverage from the foreign insurance company is not suffice)

*** The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the right to reject any visa application if the reasons given are not fully supported and the visa fee is non-refundable.

*** Additional documents may be required as deemed necessary by the Royal Thai Embassy.

***All supporting materials that are issued outside of Thailand and Malaysia must be accompanied by certified English translations and notarized by an Embassy or Ministry of Foreign Affairs only***
