On 10 July 2019, His Excellency Mr. Narong Sasitorn, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, attended a dinner to celebrate the successful purchase of Murphy Oil Corporation by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur. 

 

 The deal between PTTEP and Murphy Oil is valued at US$2.127 billion covering six oil field and gas resources namely Sabah K, SK309, SK311, Sabah H, SK314A and SK405B in Sabah and Sarawak. It is considered the biggest oil and gas deal in Southeast Asia in the past five years. This successful merger and acquisition reflects the close tie between the two countries and the strategic economic partnership between Malaysia and Thailand particularly on energy security.
