On 26 January 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia was invited to the “ASEAN Night with Ambassadors”, hosted by ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) Malaysia, to strengthen relations between the Embassy and business representatives who are members of the Council. The dinner was in an amicable atmosphere and the conversation was productive.
ASEAN-BAC was set up in April 2003, following the decision of the ASEAN Leaders at the 7th ASEAN Summit. It gathers executive representatives of leading businesses from all ten ASEAN Member States with the mandate to provide useful feedback and recommendations to boost ASEAN’s efforts towards ASEAN economic integration. The ASEAN-BAC Malaysia chapter is an integral participant in the regional ASEAN-BAC circle. Currently, Tan Sri Nazir Razak is its Chairman, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Mr. Lim Chern Yuan are the Council Members. Besides an implementation of the ASEAN-BAC’s mandate, ASEAN-BAC Malaysia also puts an emphasis on a Roadmap towards Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
Ambassador Lada commended ASEAN-BAC Malaysia on its initiative to organize such a fruitful conversation with foreign Ambassadors in Kuala Lumpur, supported an active interaction between public and private sectors whereby ASEAN-BAC could continue its important role in providing comments to the drafting of ASEAN Post-2025 vision under the economic pillar. She also welcomed ASEAN-BAC Malaysia’s determination on Roadmap towards Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 and reassured of Thailand’s continued support to Malaysia in advancing ASEAN regional economic integration and connectivity sustainably.
