On 15 January 2024, at the invitation of the Chief Justice of Malaysia Tengku Mainmun binti Tuan Mat, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia joined foreign ambassadors to Malaysia to witness and congratulate the Federal Court of Malaysia for its successful Opening Legal Year 2024 at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), Putrajaya. The Chief Justice delivered her speech, followed those by Ms. Karen Cheah Yee Lynn, President of the Malaysian Bar, who also represented the Sabah Law Society and Advocates Association of Sarawak, and

Attorney General Datuk Ahmad bin Mohd Salleh.

 

The Ambassador’s participation in such an important ceremony is a good opportunity to listen to past achievements in 2023 and vision for 2024 of the judicial institution of Malaysia, as well as challenges and recommendations, emphasizing that judiciary is independent and judges may not bow down to political interests and interference. Clarity in law and legal fraternity were also highlighted as important ingredients in the judicial process.
