On 2 February 2025, H.E. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia was invited to the launching ceremony of the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA), organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia, at Viewing Gallery (Anjung Tinjau), Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
YAB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, in his opening speech following the welcoming address by YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs, emphasized the crucial role of the MCBA as the central authority for border management. MCBA facilitates economic activities, travel, and people-to-people connectivity while enhancing security and improving the efficiency of border protection across air, sea, and land through integrated cooperation among relevant Malaysian agencies and the adoption of advanced technology and innovative solutions. The launching ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including YB Tuan Ahmad Fahmi bin Mohamed Fadzil, Minister of Communications, YAB Dato' Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor, Dato' Mohd Dusuki bin Mokhtar, Attorney General, Tan Sri Razarudin Hashim, Inspector-General of Police, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar bin Nasarah, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Raja Dato' Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Director-General of the National Security Council, Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Secretary-General, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, YBhg. Dato' Ahmad Rozian Abd. Ghani, Deputy Secretary-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dato' Sri Hazani bin Ghazali, Director-General of MCBA, foreign ambassadors in Malaysia, as well as representatives from Malaysian government agencies, and foreign embassies in Malaysia, among others.
Additionally, the first MCBA office officially commenced operations on 1 January 2025, at the Rantau Panjang ICQS Complex in Kelantan, connecting to the Sungai Kolok Border Checkpoint in Narathiwat, Thailand. As of now, Malaysia has established 21 MCBA offices, including one at the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS Complex in Kedah, which connects to the Sadao Border Checkpoint in Songkhla, Thailand, inaugurated on 1 February 2025. Malaysia plans to expand MCBA operations nationwide, targeting a total of 141 locations by 2026.
