On 18 September 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of the 46th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly, organized by the Parliament of Malaysia during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, under the theme “Parliament at the Forefront for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable ASEAN” from 16 - 22 September 2025 at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony featured welcome remarks by H.E. Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Secretary-General of AIPA, an Opening Address by H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, President of AIPA and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, and an Officiating Address by Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. The ceremony was attended by high-level delegations from ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, observer countries, totaling 23 countries, 8 development partners, representatives of government agencies, and members of the diplomatic corps in Malaysia, totaling more than 500 participants.

 

The Prime Minister of Malaysia underscored the vital role of parliaments in strengthening democracy based on accountability, transparency, and constructive debate, while promoting inclusivity within ASEAN to ensure that the voices of all groups, including women and youth, are heard. He stressed that such inclusivity would contribute to a stronger and more united ASEAN, fostering peace, stability, and shared prosperity in the region.

 

The Ambassador was pleased to meet with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia and the Thai parliamentary delegation to the Assembly, led by H.E. Mr. Chalard Khamchuang, Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. On 19 September 2025, the Ambassador also hosted a dinner in honour of the Thai delegation at the Thai Ambassador’s Residence. The Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the close and regular high-level exchanges and cooperation between the Thai and Malaysian Parliaments, and reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to support the work of the Parliament and promote continued cooperation between the two sides. The Thai delegation expressed keen interest in further exchanges of knowledge and information on Thailand–Malaysia relations in a friendly manner, while also appreciating the Embassy’s warm hospitality and strong support for their participation in the Assembly.
