On 28 February 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to the celebration to commemorate the 20th Anniversary (2004 – 2024) of the Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd’s Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony was presided over by H.R.H. the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, and H.R.H. Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor. On this occasion, H.R.H. the Sultan of Selangor also signed the book “Born & Bred in Pewter Dust: The Royal Selangor Story” which chronicles the legacy of the Royal Selangor spanning over a century.

 

Upon the Royal arrival, the Ambassador, among the invited guests, had an opportunity to greet the H.R.H.s. Dato’ Yong Yoon Li, Managing Director of the Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhn, who is the 4th generation of the Yong family business, in his address to the H.R.H.s, emphasised the Company’s commitment to the design and production of pewter products under the renowned brand name “Royal Selangor”, which has been globally recognised for 139 years since its establishment in 1885.

 

The Ambassador together with the invited guests was taken on the exhibition tour of the learning centre which showcases the design and manufacturing development of pewter products and decorative items. The Centre has so far welcomed over 4 million visitors worldwide. While observing the demonstration of pewter designing and crafting, the Ambassador extensively learned and conversed with other invitees. On this occasion, the Embassy congratulates the Royal Selangor for the past achievement, as it has grown alongside the development of Kuala Lumpur from the tin mining town in the late 19th century until present, and has now become internationally renowned.
