On 4 March 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia was invited to join the Dengue Research Visibility Day 2024, co-organised by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) under Ministry of Health of Malaysia and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative (DNDi), founder of the Dengue Alliance, in which Thailand’s Siriraj Hospital is also a partner, at NIH, Selangor. Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health, Malaysia presided over the opening ceremony, whereby Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, Director-General of Health, Malaysia and Mr. Jean-Michel Piedagnel, Director of DNDi (South East Asia) were also present.
In this regard, Ambassador Lada discussed with the Health Minister of Malaysia and the delegation as well as the Thai delegations from Siriraj Hospital, including Prof. Dr. Prasert Auewarakul and Assoc. Prof. Panisadee Avirutnan, regarding Thailand’s cooperation under the Dengue Alliance, which was founded by DNDi in 2022 in partnership with institutes from dengue endemic countries including Thailand, Malaysia, India and Brazil. The Dengue Alliance aims to develop safe, affordable and accessible treatments for dengue, including clinical trials in support of necessary knowledge transfer and exchange for the research and treatments for dengue, among others.
