On 3 December 2024, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia welcomed a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Noriyuki Shikata, Ambassador-designate of Japan to Malaysia, at the Embassy.
The two Ambassadors exchanged views on the strengthening of bilateral relations between Thailand – Japan, built on the longstanding diplomatic relations of 137 years. Japan is Thailand’s biggest investor and 3rd biggest trading partner, as the two countries have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP). Other topics of discussion included the bilateral relations between Japan – Malaysia and Thailand – Malaysia, in which both Thailand and Japan are committed to forge constructive cooperation with the host country in the areas of economic, trade and investment, energy, tourism and people-to-people connectivity. Regional and international issues of common interests were also discussed during the meeting.
The meeting was cordial, and helped strengthen good relations between the two Ambassadors and embassies, as the two sides express readiness to share thoughts and experiences, while working closely during their tenure in Malaysia.
