On 1 October 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, welcomed YBhg. Dato’ Normah binti Osman, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Transport of Malaysia, together with her delegation, as well as YBhg. Dato’ Shabaruddin Ibrahim, Group Executive Chairman of Mutiara Perlis and his team. During the meeting, both sides discuss logistics procedure for cross-border goods between Thailand-Malaysia through Padang Besar Border in advance of the commencement of commercial operations of the Perlis Inland Port (PIP), scheduled for 15 November 2025.

The Government of Malaysia has announced the relocation of the cargo terminal from Padang Besar Container Terminal (PBCT) to PIP on the said date, in order to accommodate the growing volume of container trucks. Under this arrangement, trucks and containers from Thailand will be required to use the designated routes to undergo the immigration and customs clearance at the Customs & Immigration Checkpoint (CIC). Drivers will also be required to present a valid passport or border pass for entry and exit stamping.

On this occasion, both sides also discussed and exchanged the information on the latest progress of the transport cooperation between Thailand-Malaysia, particularly on the railway connectivity and transshipment goods inspection procedures. Both sides reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral transport connectivity and within the ASEAN.

The Perlis Inland Port (PIP) is a dry port located approximately 4.47km from Padang Besar checkpoint in Songkhla province. With an annual handling capacity of 300,000 TEUs, PIP is expected to facilitate the rising volume of cross-border trade and improving the efficiency of goods logistics from Thailand to Malaysia.
