Ambassador welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand on his visit to Malaysia

On 6 - 7 September 2026, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, welcomed H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and his delegation on the occasion of his Working Visit to Malaysia.

On 7 September 2026, the Ambassador attended the Working Lunch between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia. Both sides followed up on progress made following the Official Visit to Malaysia by H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, during 9 - 10 July 2026. They agreed to strengthen cooperation on security and the development of the Thailand - Malaysia border areas, as well as connectivity in various dimensions, with a view to improving the quality of life of people in the border areas through more integrated use of existing bilateral mechanisms. The two sides also discussed the Peace Dialogue in Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces, in which Malaysia serves as Facilitator, and underscored the importance of fostering an environment conducive to advancing the Peace Dialogue.

The Ambassador also attended the meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Director-General of the National Security Council of Malaysia. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation on the development and security of the Thailand - Malaysia border areas, particularly through intelligence sharing and coordination concerning the construction of security fencing along the border, among other measures, to prevent transnational crime. They also discussed cooperation in promoting a sustainable Peace Dialogue.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs will co-chair with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia the 16th Meeting of the Thailand - Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JC) and the 7th Ministerial Meeting of the Thailand - Malaysia Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas (JDS), to be held in Bangkok in late October 2026.
