On 22 August 2023, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia received a courtesy call by YB Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin, Minister of Transport, Sarawak and the Ministry’s delegation at the Embassy.

H.E. Ambassador Lada discussed and exchanged information on the progress of Thailand and Sarawak’s transport network developments. She was pleased to learn of the Ministry’s delegation’s study visit to Phuttamonthon truck terminal and Rom Klao truck terminal, Thailand during 27-31 August 2023, which have been important logistics hubs to hep increase efficiency for road transportation. Previously, she was also briefed on the State of Sarawak’s plan to develop the Trans Boreno Railway by Dato’ Ir. Alice Jawan Empaling, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Transport, Sarawak during the Women in Rail Malaysia Conference 2023 on 3 August 2023 at JW Marriot Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

YB Dato’ Sri Lee Kim Shin further elaborated that Sarawak would like to learn from Thailand’s experience in goods transport and logistics system including the refrigeration system in order to improve and increase efficiency of that of the State of Sarawak. In addition, the State of Sarawak is currently developing the infrastructure for its first hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART). The ART’s engineering run and initial stage of operations are expected to take place by 2023 and the last quarter of 2025 respectively.
