On 24 September 2026, Her Excellency Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, welcomed a delegation from the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), led by Mr. Chonthun Sangpoom, Deputy Secretary-General and Acting Secretary-General of SBPAC, who paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador at the Royal Thai Embassy during their visit to Kuala Lumpur to participate in the Royal Thai Embassy’s Economic Forum 2026. Ms. Tarinee Limchularattana, Minister Counsellor (Labour), was also in attendance.
The Ambassador exchanged views with the SBPAC delegation on fostering constructive cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy and SBPAC to cultivate an environment conducive to socio-economic development in Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces (SBPs), while emphasising the importance of results-oriented economic diplomacy, particularly in supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the SBPs in high-potential sectors such as the halal industry, agriculture and livestock, tourism, education, and vocational skills development, as well as enhancing SBPAC’s strategic capabilities through participation in the Royal Thai Embassy-led initiatives, including the Legal Advisory Project and the Economic Forum, with a view to ensure SBPAC’s comprehensive social development and the sustainable, cost-effective Thai workers-related initiatives that directly protect and benefits Thai people in Malaysia.
The Royal Thai Embassy remains committed to its ongoing collaboration with SBPAC to advance economic growth, security, and social development in the SBPs. This continued partnership builds upon previous strategic engagements, including discussions to promote cooperation between SBPAC and the State of Perak, Malaysia, in February 2026, and the bilateral dialogue in June 2026 aimed at advancing policies for cross-border child protection between Thailand and Malaysia.
Furthermore, during 24 - 25 September 2026, the SBPAC delegation also actively participated in the Royal Thai Embassy’s Economic Forum 2026. Key activities included the participation of SBP entrepreneurs at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026, activity to foster public-private networking between Thailand and Malaysia, and Forums on the creative halal industry and sustainable rubber.
