On 24 February 2025, the Centre for Thai Students in Malaysia at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur attended the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Universities Exhibition & Forum 2025 (AEF 2025), organised for the first time by the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia during 24 - 25 February 2025 at Sunway Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The ceremony was officiated by YB Senator Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry bin Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, and was attended by over 5,000 participants from 10 ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste, including 68 Thai students from Thai and Malaysian universities, as well as representatives of 8 universities from Thailand.
The Minister underlined the importance of education as the foundation of a resilient and progressive ASEAN Community, as well as the evolving roles of universities in becoming centre of knowledge exchange, engine of innovation, and incubator to equip the youths for emerging job sectors. On this occasion, the Minister also launched the ASEAN GEMS (Global Exchange for Mobility & Scholarship) platform, which will serve as a one-stop information hub for scholarship opportunities and academic exchange programmes among ASEAN member states, aiming at enhancing regional education access and academic integration.
Following the opening ceremony, the Centre for Thai Students in Malaysia visited exhibition booths and met with representatives from participating Thai universities, including Khon Kaen University, Kasetsart University, Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, Phuket Rajabhat University, Krirk University, Thaksin University, Sripatum University, and Siam University. The Centre also engaged in a warm and cordial atmosphere with Thai students who participated in the ASEAN Student Mobility Programme, a side event to AEF 2025 organised by the Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) during 11 - 25 February 2025, as well as supported Thai students who attended the ASEAN Young Talent Speaker Award and the ASEAN Future Innovator Challenge.
