On 15 January 2026, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand to Malaysia, was invited to attend a Briefing on Responding to Scam Centres in Myanmar, organized by the British High Commission in Malaysia. The event featured welcoming remarks by H.E. Mr. Ajay Sharma, British High Commissioner to Malaysia, with the presence of representatives from foreign embassies in Malaysia, totaling more than 100 participants.
The Ambassador received briefings from distinguished speakers including Mr. Christos Christodoulides, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Office in Myanmar, Ms. Lisa Samuelsen, Founder of Eden Myanmar, Mr. Jason Tower, Senior Expert at the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC), and Ms. Nur Farah Hani Abd Hamid, National Project Officer (Counter-Trafficking) of IOM Malaysia, on the situation of online scams in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on assisting victims from scam centres in Myanmar.
On this occasion, the Ambassador exchanged information and perspectives on Thailand’s efforts to combat online scams through cooperation with neighbouring countries and international partners, including hosting the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams in Bangkok on 17 - 18 December 2025. She emphasized Thailand’s proactive role in assisting and repatriating victims from multiple countries, promoting this agenda at all levels, and reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to share experiences and support regional and global cooperation to address the issue sustainably.
