On 9-12 February 2025, H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Ambassador of Thailand, welcomed Mr. Umesh Nath Pandey, Thai Trade Representative (TTR) on the occasion of his visit to Malaysia.
On 10 February 2025, the Ambassador and TTR Umesh had a meeting with YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry at MITI Tower, Kuala Lumpur, whereby Mr. Worawan Wanwil, Minister Counselor (Commercial) and Ms. Orndaporn Pewngern, First Secretary also attended. Both sides expressed the shared commitment to increase two-way trade and investment between Thailand and Malaysia as well as to promote role of the private sector to the achievement of Thailand-Malaysia bilateral trade target of 30 billion USD by 2027. The Thai side reiterated Thailand’s support for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, whereby MITI is coordinator for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and for the initiatives to further promote intra-regional trade and investment and strengthen supply chain in ASEAN.
Later on the day, the Ambassador as well as TTR Umesh joined the 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner of the TOA Paint Products Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of TOA Paint Thailand Co., Ltd., whereby YAM Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz of Negri Sembilan was also in presence. Mr. Jatuphat Tangkaravakoon, CEO of TOA Group and team welcomed the distinguished guests at Everly Hotel, Putrajaya.
On 11 February 2025, the Ambassador was invited to deliver remarks welcoming Thai-Malaysian businesses from the heavy industry sector, including Electronics, Automotives, Building Materials, Machinery, and Medical Devices, participating in the “Malaysia-Thailand Industrial Products Business Matching”, organised by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce at Imperial Lexis Kuala Lumpur Hotel, whereby TTR Umesh delivered his opening remarks. The Ambassador reiterated that Thailand’s heavy industry sector remains integrated in the supply chain regionally and globally amidst the current geopolitical tensions.
At the Happy and Healthy Chinese New Year Dinner on 12 February 2025 at Courtyard by Marriot Hotel, Selangor, hosted by Top Glove, the Ambassador also met with Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), whom TTR Umesh brought the Thai businesses to discuss ways to promote Thai-Malaysian businesses cooperation in the industrial supply chain during the morning on the same day.
